A lot of Cape Coral homes were built without gutters at all, on the theory that the sand drains. Then the rain comes off a tile roof in a sheet during a 3-inch afternoon storm, trenches the beds, splashes mud up the stucco, floods the lanai and, on canal lots, washes the fill out from behind the seawall cap. Gutters here aren't about basements; they're about protecting the slab edge, the landscaping, the pool cage footings and the seawall.
We install seamless .032 aluminum gutters formed on site to the exact run, in 6-inch K-style for tile and metal roofs (5-inch can't keep up with tile's runoff) and 5-inch where the roof is shingle and the runs are short. Downspouts are oversized, placed where they don't dump onto the walkway or the dock, and extended or piped to daylight away from the house. Hangers are hidden screw-in brackets every 24 inches, not spikes. Gutter guards are available where oaks and palms drop into them. And on every roof replacement we can install the gutters the same week, with the drip edge and gutter apron built as one system.

Questions we get about gutters
Do I need gutters in Cape Coral?
If you've got mud splashed on the stucco, trenches in the beds, water pooling on the lanai or fill washing out behind the seawall, yes. Tile and metal roofs shed water faster than shingle, so the problem's worse on the nicer roof.
5-inch or 6-inch?
Six-inch on tile and metal — they shed water in a sheet and a 5-inch gutter overflows in a real storm. Five-inch is fine on shingle with short runs.
Where should the downspouts go on a canal lot?
Not at the seawall. Water dumped behind the cap washes out the fill and undermines the wall. We run downspouts to the sides of the house and extend or pipe them to a spot that drains, which on a canal lot usually means toward the street side or a French drain.
Will gutter guards work with palms?
Micro-mesh guards handle fronds and oak leaves well; nothing handles a royal palm frond sliding off the roof except sizing the gutter so it can take the hit. We'll tell you which guard, if any, makes sense.
Can you install gutters on a tile roof without breaking tiles?
Yes. Hangers go into the fascia, not through the tile, and we walk tile roofs the way tile roofers do.
Do you do gutters on their own, or only with a roof?
Either. Standalone gutter jobs are usually done in a day.
